MYTH: The speculators cause the cost of oil to soar. FACT: Speculators can only drive a marketplace for so long. Ultimately, the laws of supply and demand determine price. They are merely speculating on where they believe the market will actually be. And no speculators want to get "stuck" with a supply that has then decreased in value. The real issue is that Americans are forced to pay for oil no matter what the price because we have become so incredibly dependent upon it.
